Overview

Business Objective

Based on user feedback, the existing app required updating.

Background

Client attributed the low usage and download statics of the app to the feedback they had received via comments and user surveys that the existing app's reporting graphs were causing confusion. 

​

  • Decrease usability issues of reporting tool

  • Seamlessly integrate new tool with existing features within a limited timeline

Challenges

Usability Challenges

  • Multiple sets of calendar-based data needed to be designed to be responsive for mobile devices

  • Need to show relative correlation between data points

  • Seamlessly integrating new feature into an already live feature set

  • No access to test/interview users beyond comment feedback, inhibiting the ability to fully understand usability obstacles versus features that have been working well

  • Limited tracking had been set up on app due to regulatory/legal constraints

Solutions

Top Recommendations​

  • Develop a competitive analysis and research best practices to help guide usability updates

  • Separate data points to different charts but create an animation when switching between charts to subtly show correlation

  • Allow users to seamlessly scroll through data and set display ranges between day, week, or month

  • Accompany each graph with a data summary to quickly assess high level data as appropriate

  • Integrate solutions directly into prototype to confirm with client from early stages that usability meets objectives

  • Perform user acceptance testing on prototype to a select number of patient ambassadors for immediate feedback

Responsibilities

I prepared and presented the competitive analysis to the clients. I quickly wired and built directly into a working prototype, and then handed off Sketch files to the design team in order to expedite the visual design timeline. Once art had layouts, I updated to a high fidelity prototype for client review and to use for user acceptance testing. Throughout the entire development phase, constant communication with development team occurred to help course correct with any technical challenges.
